Peace Mandala Project at North Pocono Intermediate School, Moscow, PA

Hexagon Project becomes The Interdependence Hexagon Project interdependent with the Peace Mandala Project at North Pocono Intermediate School, Moscow, PA! Over500 hexagons were created last week at the school under the direction of Mousumi Moushumi De, PhD Candidate at Indiana University at Bloomington IN. Mousumi led the students to think, draw and write about what Peace means to them in school. Their principal, Mr. Farr spoke to them about the importance of seeing themselves as connected to each other and how it helps these 4th and 5th graders understand that they have responsibilities to work together for a larger goal – their education and a better world.
Mousumi guided the experience by asking questions that elicited very unique and positive responses. The TWO 8′ x 8′ murals will be installed in their school library as a reminder of their ideas an intentions about making their school a joyful and peaceful place. Pictured here are Beth Burkhauser, Hexagon Project Chair, Assunta Anelli, North Pocono HS Junior, who helped direct the Project as part of her Senior Project; Mousumi De, Peace Mandala Project; Nancy Petalver, Art Education Major at Keystone Keystone College PAEA Chapter, Esther Anelli Teacher and coordinator, NPIS, and and Mr. Farr, Principal.
